W.A.S.P.'s LAWLESS: 'We Never Cared About Shocking The Fans'
January 24, 2005W.A.S.P. frontman Blackie Lawless recently talked to the Greek metal TV show "TV War" (web site) about the band's latest album, his future plans and his relationship to "shock rock."
"To be honest, we never cared about shocking the fans," Lawless said. "Whenever we were doing a show, we did it to entertain ourselves. I never really cared about shock, all we did was avant-garde theater. It was interesting to us, but sensationalism and shock just to shock has no meaning to us. We always thought that it was very boring. I've never seen movies like 'Friday 13th', they never interested me. If there's a theater that's trying to make a statement like we thought we were doing and there's a meaning behind that, to me it makes it more believable and more realistic. I see bands that try to do what we do but they're doing it just to shock. You don't shock first, you put believability behind it. That's first. Then, if people become shocked by it, that's their interpretation."
The whole interview will be aired on Wednesday, January 26 at 11:00 p.m. CET.
"TV War" is broadcast every Monday and Wednesday on Mad TV at 11:00 p.m. CET. It can be seen through the Greek NOVA package on Hotbird 3 satellite. Most European countries are already able to receive the show, while plans are currently underway for other continents to get coverage.
